Trumbull Fathers Count
A project by Cheryl Smith
As you consider our project for your generous donation, we would greatly appreciate the opportunity to share with others the turn-around these fathers have decided to make in their lives for the purpose of leaving a better legacy for their children. Will You Help Us? If you refer at least 10 potential donors to this campaign and they "Like" our Facebook page, we will send a special gift: Gourmet Popcorn. You will receive snack bag of one of the following flavors: White Cheddar, Chicago Chic, Spicy Cheddar, Double Chocolate, Macadamia Delight, Oreo Cookie, Better Salt & Pepper, Brown Sugar Caramel or Nutty Caramel. Yours to choose with our thanks for your help with our campaign!
“Papa was a rolling stone” and “Deadbeat Dad” are common misconceptions used to describe many fathers in the child support system in our County. From where we sit in Warren, OH, the county seat of a rural community where the manufacturing industry has declined—decreasing the available jobs by more than 50%, this is where many dads start the downward spiral towards struggle. I started Trumbull Fathers Count as a means to bring church pastors and parishioners together with community service agencies (like Collaboration Station) and organizations of the Christian faith (such as ACOP—an outreach center of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance in Warren, OH)--to better understand why the dads have found themselves in this position and to help them “come-out” by becoming better parents and financially support their children.
In our area, many dads have found themselves in child support because they lost their jobs, lost their family’s support after they turned 18, or because they succumbed to worldly temptations that cost them their freedom (ex-offenders). Now that they have come to themselves, they are coming to Trumbull Fathers Count programs to get help in getting back on their feet so they can be the responsible dads they know they should be. Trumbull Fathers Count is the only program of its kind in this county where dads can come and feel safe to talk about their fears, their barriers to success, and get assistance in making a lifelong change.
Christian Pastors and Christian men & women who care are changing lives by mentoring and training these dads on critical fatherhood skills such as: peaceful problem-solving (we also call this—‘not letting your anger get the best of you’), communicating with my child’s mothers and other caregivers (teachers, doctors, etc.), the importance of having “daddytime,” and leaving a financial legacy for my child’s future. These dads have had a lot of obstacles to overcome and they are doing it, but we need your help to keep this ministry going.
The video you are seeing represents two of the fathers and one of the local Pastors that participate in this program right now! It is very candid. I hope that the things they share with you about how Trumbull Fathers Count and Collaboration Station is helping them, will inspire your support.

Loving God, guide us to compassion for those who are most in need. Those who are homeless and neglected and all children in need or danger.
Inspire us, O God, to find solutions to strengthen ourselves, Our health and our neighborhoods. Lead us to improve our human relationships.
Take care, Saving God, of all who struggle for the good of the City and grant hope, abundance and peace to all.

Lord I thank you for expanding my borders to serve fathers who desperately desire to leave a legacy for their children. These dads need to see, know and experience your love, your grace, your mercy, your provision and your faithfulness through this project. I pray your Word Lord which says "Let your light so shine before men that they might see your good works and Glorify your Father which is in heaven." As they take steps to improve their individual lives, you provide the increase they need to be the responsible dads they desire to be and get to know YOU as the All-Sufficient God that you are!
