It is the goal of the Christian Literacy Project to put the Bible behind bars.  For generations, the Gideons have done a great job taking used Bibles from hotels and placing them in America's prisons and jails.  Yet, most of the men, women, and children who are incarcerated in America's prison system cannot read well enough to understand the King James Bible, or even the NIV.

70% of the population in U.S. prisons read on or below a 5th grade level.  85% of young people caught up in the juvenile justice system are functionally illiterate.  The overwhelming majority of those who are in jail will be released, and unless they learn to read, and develop a personal relationship, they are likely to become repeat offenders.

The Christian Literacy Project wishes to provide easy-to-read Bibles (such as "Free on the Inside" a NIrV Bible), Christian literature (such as Brother Lawrence's Christian classic, "The Practice of the Presence of God"), and easy-to-read Bible studies free of charge to inmates and prison chaplains nationwide.

We need the money to incorporate, to purchase and ship Bibles, and to finish developing and print our literature.

Please join us in prayer that we will be found worthy of the ministry that burdens our heart.  That we will raise enough money to meet the needs within the prison systems, and that we will find chaplains that are dedicated to the same mission.
